To get to Sassoon from Barnel, take the first two bridges that you see, and then follow the dirt path.
Don't forget to make your last save before returning to Port Tyrfin.

I reuploaded the demo with the file in question about several hours ago, so it's all good.
By all means, feel free to report on any other glitches that you find.
One new feature is that you can now initiate meal scenes with characters at inns in Grandia-like fashion. Try to get at least one meal scene per accessible city or castle in each chapter. Just putting that out there.

I believe you're talking about the two paths that you can take -- one for where you can save your game, and the other for continuing the dungeon.

Roy, are you sure you're seeing two caves? Is it possible for you to upload a screenshot? I've never had this happen.
